About me

I am a London-based writer/editor and freelance journalist specialising in business, technology and communications. I’m into techie stuff, internet, travel and dance classes – ballet and commercial jazz.

Not just a technology geek, though I love my iPad. I have been described as maths geek girl – into stats, not algebra or nightmare A’Level maths questions! I have an MBA in Strategy and a BA(Hons) in English and Classics.

I have been screenwriting for just under a year – so far only short movies. The most recent, Rauða Hettan, was screened at the London Independent Film Festival 2013, and I am working to develop further in this direction. Here is a link to my IMDB page http://www.imdb.com/name/nm5311305/

I realise as I write this that I have a lot of diverse interests: professionally I write about practical topics; creatively, I am fascinated by the blend of style and sadness and this underpins my creative writing. My favourite movies are Casablanca and Blade Runner! I like, but not exclusively, sci-fi movies and novels (Philip K Dick is an all-time favourite) and things Japanese – from Haruki Murakami novels to animated movies ranging from Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle to ‘hard science fiction manga’ Planetes.

I like the discipline and beauty of ballet and I go to a class taught by a former ballerina a couple of times a week. Ballet is my therapy; it takes me away from my screen and because it is difficult and I have to concentrate, it takes me away from deadline and other pressures. There are precious few therapies that soothe your mind and improve your muscle tone and flexibility. I also go to commercial jazz dance classes and run or swim once a week or so.

I use this blog to write more personal accounts of some of places I visit for work or personal reasons and share my views on films, books and events – and anything that catches my imagination and inspires me. When I write a review for publications – paper or online – I need to write for a particular readership. Here I have more scope to develop opinions, ideas and themes for anyone who wants to read them.

These are my random musings – something like the creative notebook that apparently every writer should have; dipping a toe into creative writing and maybe finding a theme, or just building an extension of my twitter presence: a combination of professional and personal observations.

This is also a history – a record perhaps for posterity, for my family and friends, and all my readers, to address the continued efforts of those who for reasons of their own are attempting to portray me differently.
